THE TRADITION OF READING IN INDONESIA

Reading is the first revelation in islam  which command us to read and islam concerns in building the habit reading too. Cause with read the nation civilization going to forward. Some of countries became a developed countries because their high reading tradition , like Amerika, kananda, japan etc they are reading a book in anywhere , ex :in train  u can see that they are standing and enjoying with their book.  Reading is became a culture in their countries.

So, how about in indonesia?

According to UNESCO research in 2012 explained about the Index of indonesian interest reading is 0,001 % meaning if there are 1000 person just 1 person who loves reading.

the research from national center for education statistics in America declared that the read habit identical  to the educational achievement :  the higher of education level it will more happy to read newspaper, magazine, and book every day.  Love reading, hobby of  buying and collecting books  is a easy phenomena in developed countries. its different with in Indonesia. Right?

how to improve the tradition of reading in Indonesia?

there are several ways that can be used to improve the reading tradition

1.       Raise our motivation to read.

It’s important because reading is the window of the world and we know that there are many of advantages of reading. We must loves with read activity. Mr. Moh. Hatta very loves with read until he ever said “ i would like to go to prison, as long as there books, because with book i’m free’’

2.       Do not read at free time but please take the time to read

Student of university in developed countries like japan and amerika reading 8 hours for one day, it different with indonesia just 2 hours for a day .

3.       Build the park reading, so it will give a lot of place for read

By building the park reading,  the access of public to get a book is become easier. They can sitting in the park with reading a book, like Arabic proverb said ‘’ a good friend at a time when sitting is a book’’

4.       Increase the publishers of books.

Because indonesia is the country with the least  book production is only about 8000  for one years. Compare with malaysia which publishing 15000 title for a year and vietnam 45.000 titles for a year and english publishing 100.000 titles for a year.

5.       Make a reading habit in family

It’s most important because Progress of International Reading Literacy Study tahun 2011 put the achievement of learning of indonesian child at rank 42 from 45 countries.

6.       Increase bookstores and make a book with cheap price

The progress of a country is supported by the reading habits of its citizen and i hope indonesia became a developed country with the good reading habit.
